Meet The Team

 

 

 

Pastor Michelle Ronia: was born in Mt.Clements, Michigan and became a Christian at the age of twelve .At seventeen she joined the United States Marine Corps and served four years. It was out here in 29 Palms at the MCAGCC where she met her husband,Chris. They married in 1990 and have three beautiful daughters. Michelle started out ministering in various capacities simply to help and serve in her local church and community. In an interest to grow in her knowledge of scripture, she started taking Bible correspondence courses through Rhema Bible Training Center. Eventually, she attended Southern California Christian College where she earned a Masters in Ministry degree. Michelle received her Doctorate in Theology from Life Point Christian University in December of 2020. Michelle is a licensed and ordained minister through the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel and was appointed as Senior Pastor of Oasis Community Church on April30,2020. During her free time, Michelle enjoys watching comedies, camping, hiking, and traveling.

 

 

RuEllyn Benedict: Elder also serves as church treasurer. RuEllyn Benedict made the decision to serve the Lord while she was in high school and has been able to serve Him in many ways over the years. Her husband Mike, was a Marine and they were stationed at Twentynine Palms Marine Corps base three times. They decided to retire here because they love the desert beauty. RuEllyn has been a member of Oasis Community Church since 1986 and has served in it in many capacities over the years. Currently she serves on the church council and as the treasurer. RuEllyn has been quoted as saying “I love this church, it is like family.”

 

Robert Kelley: Elder and Council Member. In 1994 Robert, along with his wife Joan Marie, accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior at The Way Station, in Joshua Tree California. It was here that they were invited to Oasis Community Church where they attended for almost 2 years. At this time, the Lord moved them on to Victory Christian Center of Yucca Valley. Soon they became members at VCCYV and served for over 10 years. During this decade of faithful attendance & service, Robert and Joan achieved much spiritual growth. They even assisted as Youth Leaders for over 5 years! In 2005, God moved them to Spirit and Truth Worship Center. Robert faithfully supported this church in many areas & in 2017 he became a Licensed Minister. In the Fall of 2021 the Lord reassigned Robert and Joan Marie here to Oasis Community Church. Upon Robert’s return to OCC he was installed as an Elder and asked to serve on the Church Council. Additionally, the Lord has utilized Robert’s giftings on the Mission field where he has traveled to 5 different Countries over 7 missions excursions. He has helped set up Churches and Christian Schools in Nigeria and Liberia. Robert has been married for over 30 years to his wife Joan Marie, and has 4 grown boys and one daughter.

 

Robyn Benedict: Church Council member. Robyn was born in Oceanside, California in January of 1973 while her father was serving in the United States Marine Corps. She grew up in a Christian family and attended church regularly with her parents and sister. Robyn made the decision to serve Jesus at the age of 10. She and her family began attending Oasis Community Church in 1986. In Jr. High School, Robyn was filled with the Holy Spirit when a guest Evangelist came to minister to the congregation. In her free time, Robyn enjoys reading mysteries and Christian Fiction. In addition to serving as a Council member, Robyn also assists in the AV department recording and posting Pastor’s sermons for the FaceBook LIVE feed.

 

Ronald Dunbar: Council Member: Ron was born and raised in Silsbee, Texas. While growing up, he attended the 1st United Methodist Church and participated in the youth choir. He enlisted the United States Marine Corps in July 1973. While sitting off the coast of South Vietnam, in April of 1975, Ron decided to follow Christ. In August of 1976, he was assigned to the Marine Base 29 Palms and met his wife, Kathy (she was a local girl) and was married in 1977. Ron & Kathy moved around a bit during his career with the Marine Corps but returned to 29 Palms for their last duty station. Ron retired from the Corps in August 1993 and was employed with the County of San Bernardino from May 1994 until retirement in July 2020. During much of this time he was unable to attend church due to working weekends. However, as he was able, he began attending Oasis Community Church in 2005 . At a Men’s Retreat in 2010, he rededicated his life to Christ and has been totally surrendered to Jesus ever since.

 

Debbie McElroy: Council Member Debbie McElroy was born in Hammond, Indiana in 1960 and moved to Southern California in 1968. Her family moved to Twentynine Palms in 1977. Debbie accepted Jesus into her life at a church camp when she was thirteen. However, she wasn’t serious about serving the Lord until five years later when she rededicated her life to God. It was at this time that Debbie became an active member of her church. Unfortunately, she fell away from God after marrying a man who did not serve the Lord. However, in 1997 she started attending Oasis Community Church and once again rededicated her life to God! Debbie has been an active member of Oasis from the beginning, serving primarily in the Nursery, as well as helping with the food pantry. Currently, Debbie serves on the Church Council and is helping in the Children’s Ministry department. When she is able, Debbie loves visiting with her five children and eleven grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys reading, bowling, & going for walks. Debbie loves people and has a heart for reaching the lost and hurting for Jesus.

 

      Kathy Dunbar: Alex Roth Memorial Food Pantry. Kathy Dunbar was born in San Bernardino, California in 1959 and brought up right here in 29 Palms. She and her husband Ron of over 43 years raised two wonderful children. They have relocated their clan several times, courtesy of the United States Marine Corps. Eventually, they retired here in our wonderful desert city. Kathy came to faith in Christ at a young age and has always had a heart to serve people. In 1993, she became involved with Oasis by shuttling teens to and from Youth Group. Kathy joined the church in 1996 where she reaffirmed her faith in the Lord. Around 2003 she started volunteering at the Alex Roth Memorial Food Pantry. In 2005 Kathy took over the weekly operations of managing, purchasing, and distributing food to our local community; where she and her faithful volunteers graciously serve the precious people of 29 Palms. The verse that the Lord gave Kathy for those we minister to at the food pantry is from John 21:15 “Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?’ He said to Him, ‘Yes, Lord; You know that I love You’ He said to him, ‘Feed My lambs.’”
